EARLY morning drivers are urged to help police in an attempt to crack down on theft of stone.
Ribble Valley police believe organised gangs are targeting the borough at night to steal stone, which can be sold on at high prices to people who want to improve their gardens.
Coping stones totalling £800 were stolen recently from a house in Goose Lane, Chipping on two separate occasions.
Dry-stone walls have also become popular targets for thieves.
A spokesman for Longridge Police said: "It seems that these thefts have started again, and people should be extra careful about the security of these items.
"We would urge drivers of vehicles such as milk lorries, taxis and other vehicles often out at night, to keep an eye out for anything suspicious."
Anyone with information about stone thefts is asked to contact Longridge Police on 01772 782625.
