IN reply to Mr M J Hawtrey (LET, Letters, February 24) may I point out a couple of things to him.

Mellor residents pay their council tax to Clitheroe not Blackburn and no Blackburn taxpayers' money is spent in Mellor or any other part of the Ribble Valley.

The police are paid through the tax set by Lancashire Police Authority and usually come from Clitheroe -- sometimes Blackburn.

We may have a Blackburn postcode but nearly everyone I know addresses letters as 'Mellor, Ribble Valley' not Mellor near Blackburn.

The old Blackburn Rural District Council couldn't wait to give up Mellor 30 years ago -- so now why does Sir Bill Taylor suddenly decide that Blackburn want Mellor and other villages back?

Residents of Mellor are determined Mellor will remain as part of the Ribble Valley.

The people of Darwen may accept their fate when it comes to being absorbed by Blackburn -- but Mellor residents will not give up their Ribble Valley status as easily!
