A CAMPAIGN has been launched to recruit hundreds of supporters for a fun run to help boost charities' coffers as part of Lancaster University's 40th anniversary celebrations.
A team of volunteers is gathering pace on its mission to sign up as many residents, groups and businesses as possible for the event.
They have already won pledges from more than 100 people for the run during Roses Weekend on Sunday, May 2.
Students from the Lancaster University Volunteering Unit (LUVU) hope to involve the whole community in raising money for charity through sponsorship.
Headline charities for the run are the RNLI, RSPCA and local groups Homeless Action and Furniture Matters.
Entries for the event already include Hilton Dawson MP, city Mayor Cllr John Gilbert, staff from Total Fitness, Toast night club, Asda, Etam, Revolution Bar and local schools.
The day starts with a 500-metre dash followed by a two kilometre mini run and five kilometre Fun Run - completely off-road. Other activities will include a Real Ale Festival and a marquee filled with games for all ages.
