VILLAGES, houses and remote farmsteads were cut off by blizzards.
On the bleak moorland of Grane Road, Haslingden a Ribble bus was stranded and the conductor, James Ashton, suffered exposure when he struggled through the blizzard. He was stretchered more than two miles by police to the King Edward VII hotel, where an ambulance took him to hospital.
