TWO teenagers have been convicted of taking part in an early hours drunken attack which left a musician seriously injured.

Daniel Grimshaw, 18, and Kevin White, 17, were both found guilty of grievous bodily harm after a four-day trial at Burnley Crown Court. Andrew Shaw, 19, of Scott Street, Burnley, had earlier admitted the allegation.

Grimshaw, of Dunoon Street, and White, of Padiham Road, both Burnley, had denied the charge. They were both remanded on bail until April 30 by Judge Michael Byrne who told them they must co-operate with the probation service.

The judge warned the duo they must not assume the fact he had adjourned sentence for pre-sentence reports meant he was in any way indicating what penalty would follow.

He said: "All options will be open. I will do what is correct and appropriate then."

Burnley Crown Court had earlier heard victim Iain Campbell Hodgen was set upon after leaving a Burnley club.

Mr Hodgen, of Nelson, had earlier been playing in his band at the Carlton Hotel. Shaw provoked a fight and his co-defendants joined in.

The victim said he was on his way to a taxi office in Cow Lane when a lad ran at him, looking aggressive and with his face screwed up.

Mr Hodgen said he grabbed hold of the lad so he could not hit him. They ended up pressed against a shop and he could feel the attacker punching him. The victim said he felt a huge blow, was smacked on the lips, ended up crouched and fell to his knees on the ground. He was kicked around his head, arms, and legs and was being attacked by more than one person.

The court was told Mr Hodgen suffered two burst lips and a broken leg in the attack. He had to have plastic surgery and his ankle was put in plaster.

Asked by prosecutor Tim Storrie if there was any reason he could think of why he was attacked, Mr Hodgen replied: "Not at all. It baffles me to this day."
