LIBRARY bosses have been asked to look at ways of dealing with a pigeon problem in Clitheroe town centre.
Repairs to the library clock tower resulted in a large number of pigeons becoming 'homeless', according to Clitheroe Town Council.
As a result, pigeons have begun roosting on other buildings, causing problems for both pedestrians and owners of the buildings.
They wrote to Ribble Valley Council asking for action.
James Russell, environmental health manager at Ribble Valley Council, said: "We did a site visit which revealed around 15 pigeons live along the library building's parapet.
"However, we suspect that considerably more congregate and roost there during the night as indicated by the bird lime splashing on the building and pavement.
"The numbers of birds cannot be classified as a nuisance and actionable by the borough council.
"We have, however, approached the library and brought this issue to their attention and asked that the library look into the feasibility of engaging a pest control contractor to reduce the numbers of birds before it becomes a major problem."
