MARINE 3 RADCLIFFE BORO 2: BORO boss Kevin Glendon witnessed another fighting display from his side, but yet again failed to see it turned into points.
"It was a very frustrating game from our point of view, especially the result," he said.
"For most of the game we were the better team, but schoolboy errors gifted them their goals, they didn't have to work for them, whereas we had to fight for ours.
"There's a fine line that divides the teams that are good enough from those that are not, and at the moment we fall below that line.
"Steve Foster showed great finishing to score his goal, and Davey Luker met a cracking ball into the box to head our second.
"Going forward we look okay, but defensively we are letting ourselves down."
Missing Simon Carden due to a thigh strain, Boro could have been a goal down as early as the ninth minute, but Townsend's effort was disallowed for off-side, as Boro's nerves were there for all to see.
But two minutes later Neil Black did fire the Mariners into the lead, scooping the ball over Danny Hurst in the Boro goal.
With just a quarter of an hour gone things got worse, when the influential Simon Kelly was replaced by Josh Mitten after suffering a knee injury.
This forced Glendon into a three-man attack, with Mitten pushed up front alongside Steve Foster and Tony Carroll, which seemed to have the desired effect as Boro began to dominate matters.
However, for all their huff and puff, the only shot of note came from Steve Foster, who saw his blast from the edge of the box rebound to safety off the woodwork.
Hurst then almost gifted the home side a second goal, when he mis-kicked a clearance, with the ball spinning off his boot and towards his own goal.
But he managed to prevent an embarrassing 'what happened next' own-goal by darting after the ball and stopping it before it crossed the line.
However, the Boro stopper didn't learn his lesson and within four minutes of the re-start he mis-kicked a back pass and Black was on hand to tap into an open net to double the home side's lead.
Glendon reacted by replacing James Price with Gary Sampson, and 10 minutes later Carroll was replaced by Mark Redshaw.
The changes appeared to have the desired affect, as Boro stepped up the pace and Foster pulled a goal back, his crisp 20-yarder giving Marine 'keeper Peter Crookes no chance.
At 2-1 Boro were back in the game, but another defensive mistake allowed Marine to restore their two goal advantage, as sub Tom Taylor found himself in acres of space and easily beat the exposed Hurst in a one-on-one duel.
Skipper Luker then gave Boro hope, when he headed home his side's second from an inch perfect corner, to set-up a nail-biting final eight minutes,
Boro cranked up the pressure even more and were almost rewarded with a deserved equaliser, but Crookes managed to deny Steve Foster.
The Marine keeper was then sent-off for handling outside his area, but despite Boro throwing everything they had at stand-in keeper Steve Whitehall, Marine managed to hold on and claim a 3-2 victory.
Thanks in no small part to Boro's ability to shoot themselves in the foot - repeatedly.
RADCLIFFE: Hurst, Battersby, Whealing, Kelly, Luker, J.Foster, Spencer, Carden, S.Foster, Carroll, Price. Subs: Mitten, Sampson, Redshaw.
