FAMILY and friends of a popular and keen golfer who died following a tragic car crash have paid tribute to a 'selfless and devoted young father'.
Ben Upton, 23, of Bacup Road, Waterfoot, was on his way to a job in Glasgow when the accident happened in Grane Road, Haslingden, on the morning of March 14.
Police said a collision occurred with an off-duty policeman, who is thought to have lost control of his vehicle because of a diesel spill on the road.
After a brave 11-day battle in intensive care Ben, a network engineer, passed away in the Royal Preston Hospital. A funeral service for former Haslingden High School pupil Ben was taking place today at Accrington Crematorium at 3pm.
Ben was a keen sportsman and loved life, although he found most pleasure with his six-year-old son Declan.
His long-term girlfriend Danielle said: "He is going to be missed by so many. He was a brilliant father to Declan and would do anything for him. It's so tragic."
Ben leaves his mum, Louise and her partner Bob, dad Stewart, girlfriend Danielle, 25, brother Marcus, 28, and sisters Janine, 34, Donna, 26, and Coral, 25.
Police are continuing with their investigations into the accident. An inquest is set to be held at a later date.
