HASLINGDEN Library has taken on a continental look with an exhibition of photographs from five European countries.
The Friends of Bocholt group has brought the exhibition from Rossendale's German twin town and the Valley's mayor, Eileen Kershaw, opened the display on Saturday.
In 2002 Bocholt celebrated 10 years of its official link with both Rossendale and the small town of Bocholt in Belgium. It was also 40 years since Aurillac in France and 10 years since Akmene in Lithuania signed agreements with the German town.
With the anniversaries in mind, Bocholt asked each of its twins to take pictures which represented modern everyday life in their towns. They were converted into large black and white prints and an exhibition in Bocholt was arranged. The pictures have been loaned to Rossendale for an exhibition of the five faces of Europe.
Tim Nuttall, secretary of the Friends, said: "The pictures are left without captions so the viewer doesn't have preconceived ideas. Some photos could be from Bocholt, Alkmene, Aurillac or Rossendale."
The exhibition is at Haslingden Library until May 1, with the Friends of Bocholt hoping to show it at various venues.
