The owner of the hardware shop, Mr George Shadick, had worked there for 45 years. The shop was to become solicitor's offices.
AN estimated £626,000 was to be spent on alterations to Stand Grammar School. The money was to make the site suitable as a sixth form college for 450 students.
BURY Council made new moves to shut down Kwik Save in Prestwich. The local authority's Director of Administration had been instructed to serve a new enforcement notice on the firm asking them to cease trading. The move followed a public inquiry the year before.
THE "Rochdale Cowboy" Mike Harding was guest of honour at St Margaret's Youth Club's 10th anniversary. The visit brought back fond memories for Mike as he used to run a folk club there at the start of his singing career.
