A MOTORIST clocked doing 108 mph on the motorway claimed he was racing to his girlfriend's home in Blackburn after she rang him to say she was unwell.
Blackburn magistrates heard Andrew Jeffrey Barton was followed for 1.1 miles by a police car.
But the magistrates did not impose a driving ban after hearing that since the offence in September Barton had set up his own plumbing supplies business.
Barton, 30, of Amanda Hill, Rainhill, Merseyside, pleaded guilty to speeding and was fined £600 with £35 costs and his licence endorsed with six points.
