BLACKBURN bus and taxi drivers are being offered free eye tests at a Blackburn opticians to mark World Health Day.
Specsavers in King William Street will tomorrow carry out eye tests free of charge on those driving daily in a bid to promote road safety and warn of the dangers of driving without corrective eyewear.
This year the World Health Day, which is co-ordinated by World Health Organisation, focuses on the extent of traffic injuries and the ways to prevent them.
More than one million people are killed in road accidents each year and Specsavers says poor eyesight could prove fatal.
Research conducted by the company reveals that 87 per cent of motorists are in favour of compulsory eye examinations of drivers every five years, mainly for those aged over 40.
