BURY Amateur Boxing Club wonderboy Amir Khan will be heading for the Olympic Games in Athens this summer.
The 17-year-old lightweight booked his place on the plane to Greece after winning his European qualifying competition in Bulgaria at the weekend.
Coached by Bury ABC's Mike Jelley, Amir is the first English qualifier and becomes the youngest British boxing representative since Welshman Colin Jones went to Montreal in 1976.
Amazingly, he is still too young to compete in ABA competitions in this country but the Bolton College student showed guts in abundance to avenge the opponent who controversially defeated him in the European Championship qualifiers in Croatia last month.
