AN appeal in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph for more community support for Hoddlesden's Millennium Green received a positive response.
Millennium Green committee members feared that backing for the public area had waned since its formation in September 2000 through a Lottery grant of £42,000.
Secretary Lynn Schofield urged more support or the green would deteriorate.
She said today: "The response we got from the appeal was good and people are wanting to get behind us again. Several said they didn't realise we still needed financial help.
"It is still our responsibility to maintain the green whether it's gardening or picking up litter, but I don't think a lot of people realised this until they saw the article.
She hoped the green would continue its success after a hat-trick of awards.
It received a Green Pennant Award from the Civic Trust in November 2003, an award for services to the environment by Darwen Civic Trust in 2002 and a Lancashire Evening Telegraph Grimewatch award in 2001.
