PEOPLE living near to schools during the Easter holidays are being asked to be extra vigilant and report any signs of vandalism.
The appeal was made by officers at Darwen Police Station after an attack on Moorland High School, in Holden Fold.
Police were called to the school one day into the holidays, on Saturday, after reports of damage to the building.
Detective Constable Mussarat Khan said: "We just want to make sure people are aware that it is the school holidays and to be on the lookout for anything suspicious around any of the schools in Darwen.
"Vandals smashed nine windows at the back of Moorland before getting inside and moving some tables around. We do not know yet whether anything was stolen."
If anyone sees people hanging around school buildings they should contact the police on 01254 51212.
