IT was great to see the report (February 27) regarding the revival of the former Express Milk Bar, Market Street, Darwen along with the 1950s image and the rock 'n' roll music of that era.
There will be happy nostalgic memories for the many folk who frequented that popular venue in their youth having now advanced a few years.
I still recall with fond affection the "pop" records of the fabulous 1950s -- real music that has survived the passage of time.
Blackburn, however, was deprived of indulging in this popular milk bar entertainment. The puritanical watch committee deemed it inappropriate to allow jukeboxes or any other coin machines in pubs, clubs, cafes, whatever, within the bounds of the borough, whereas over the boundary in Accrington and Darwen there was no problem.
It was the same situation as with no Sunday cinemas in Blackburn such a go-ahead town for morals!
