THE odds a bookie would not turn up to have his legs waxed for charity were not in his favour after his nerves almost got the better of him.
Bookmaker Danny Hacking, manager of Ladbrokes, Blackpool Road, Ashton, pledged to have the hairs on his legs stripped off to raise cash for Donna's Dream House, in Blackpool, which cares for terminally ill children.
But the 51-year-old almost bottled out when people told him how painful it was.
Proving his critics wrong Danny, of Mayfield Avenue, Ingol, rolled up his trousers and let leg waxers loose on his thick hairy legs. Colleagues Paul Tinsley and George Johnston suffered the same treatment. The three dare-devils raised more than £300 for the charity, matched pound-for-pound by Ladbrokes. "A few customers didn't think I would do it but some bet I would. The odds were about 4-1 I wouldn't," joked Danny, who lives with wife Jackie and two of her seven children.
