ARSONISTS have targeted Westgate Cemetery Chapel for the second time in two weeks.
Two fire crews were called to the scene shortly before 11pm on Sunday after local residents spotted a blaze inside the chapel and tried to tackle it.
Morecambe Fire's watch commander Tim Murrell said it was deliberate.
The fire was put out before it could take hold but not before it destroyed wooden flooring, wall panelling, curtains and a window.
Tim Murrell said: "The incident was almost a repeat of a fire started deliberately on the opposite side of the chapel on March 25 at the same time. Fire-fighters had to battle last time to save the chapel from destruction. This time we were called earlier and tackled it quickly."
The area has been the target of several suspicious fires recently and fire chiefs are appealing for witnesses to call the confidential crime stoppers hotline on 0800-555111.
