YOUNG runners blazed a trail to clinch first place in the Greater Manchester Primary cross-country championships.
Tyldesley Garrett Hall pupil Laura Riches led the golden girls from 'Team Wigan' to a sensational victory in the team event. Laura came fourth, followed closely by Abigail Howarth (St Thomas's), Shannon Johnson (St Joseph's), Rebecca Pearson and Emily Prior (Golborne County Primary).
The boys team was just edged out of the medal places, finishing fourth behind Bolton, Tameside and Trafford in a close-fought contest For many runners this was their first real taste of cross-country competition
