A Fylde family are desperately auctioning their prized possessions on ebay after failing to find a sponsor for a transatlantic charity get-together.
Judy, and Bill Green, of Sandhills Avenue, South Shore, are advertising dozens of items in a bid to fund the annual conference of their charity, Mosaic Down's Syndrome UK (MDS:UK).
As reported in The Citizen (March 4), Judy, 47, and husband Bill, 50, previously appealed for local sponsors to help raise the £50,000 needed to fund the conference at Calgary, Canada, in July 2005.
The couple, whose 11-year-old daughter, Katie, suffers from the condition, set-up the charity from the front room of their home in February last year.
Among the many things up for the bidding are clothes, electrical equipment, books and even a collection of special edition international Monopoly sets.
Judy said: "The idea just came to me to try and make some extra cash on ebay.
"I'll try anything to get us to Calgary. I've even asked family and friends to donate anything to help us raise funds.
"And I'm selling anything I can get my hands on from my unwanted coats, dresses and tops to bags, purses and jewellery."Our dining room now looks like a bring and buy sale.
"But, out of the lot of us, it's Bill who is making the biggest sacrifice.
"His Monopoly games mean such a lot to him. It's taken him years to collect all the different versions and they come from countries all over the world. It just proves how committed he is giving Katie the trip of a lifetime."
Since starting the group has attracted more than 52 member families from across the UK and Europe as well as America, Canada, Australia and even South Africa.
After holding their first international conference at Blackpool's Big Blue Hotel last October the group decided to meet up in the Canadian city.
But unless a sponsor is found, each family will need to find more £2,000 per person to attend the seven day trip which is set to play host to the worlds leading MDS researcher, Dr Colleen Jackson-Cook, from Virginia, USA.
Judy said: "We are all very proud of our group and don't really like haranguing people for money all the time.
"If a sponsor put themselves forward we would be more than happy to accept anything they have to offer."
