A 66-year-old woman from Bury was rescued from her smoke-filled home by firefighters after a chip pan fire.
Firemen were called to Brunswick Street at 5.50pm on Thursday night after a chip pan fire quickly spread through the kitchen.
The woman was reluctant to leave but firefighters wearing breathing apparatus managed to take her out to safety.
Firefighters fought for half an hour to bring the blaze under control and managed to keep it confined to the kitchen.
The woman was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
Station Officer Paul Myersclough said that this incident sent out a warning to other people not to leave their chip pan unattended.
He said that people should have a smoke alarm fitted, never leave their chip pan unattended or leave it on the cooker for more than half an hour.
