TWO men needed hospital treatment for smoke inhalation after they tackled a house fire.
The 27-year-old owner of the house in Audlum Court, Bury, and his 51-year-old neighbour, used a garden hose to fight the blaze as fire crews were called shortly after 4pm on Wednesday.
The fire started when a burning scented candle on a window ledge ignited the curtains. Flames spread to a nearby television set and an armchair.
Firefighters administered oxygen to both men before they were taken by ambulance to Fairfield General Hospital for further treatment. Fire damage was contained to the curtains, television and chair.
Fire chiefs are now warning homeowners not to leave lighted candles unattended and close to flammable materials.
A spokesman for Bury Fire Station said: "The fire in Audlum Court is a timely reminder of how burning candles, when left unattended, can cause heartache."
