A PROJECT to provide supported housing which meets the needs of people with learning difficulties has been successfully completed.
Burnley and Padiham Community Housing has spent the last six months buying and renovating a bungalow in Colne.
The keys were handed over to representatives from Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale Primary Care Trust (PCT) who will support the residents in their day-to-day lives.
The housing association has adapted the building to meet the present and possible future needs of the five occupants of the house.
Ramps have been created and handrails, handrails, a special bath and a walk-in shower room installed, as well as other individual specifications.
The work is part of a £240,000 project to provide lifelong homes for people with disabilities.
Laura Urbanski, from Burnley and Pendle Community Housing, said: "The tenants were identified at the beginning of the process and the property is now ready for them to move in.
"We have other shared supported housing, both with social services and the PCT, but this is the first in the Homes for Life scheme.
"An example of this is that wheelchair access has been created, even though the residents don't use wheelchairs at the moment, because they may do in future. It's about planning ahead."
Glenn Walker, assistant clinical nursing manager for the PCT's leisure disability service, said: "This is a wonderful addition to the services we already offer.
"We have 32 such houses across Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale and we were only too pleased to go into Partnership with Burnley and Padiham Community Housing.
"We are very pleased with the results.
"The accommodation provided is of a very high standard and will improve the quality of life for the five tenants immensely."
