A DRIVER three times the limit at lunchtime told police he had had a glass of chablis with his breakfast.
Burnley Magistrates heard how Robert Alcock, 34, was stopped in the town after he seemed to have trouble following the contours and curves of the road. He was warned by magistrates he could go to jail.
Alcock, of Richmond Road, Accrington, admitted driving with excess alcohol on April 4. He was bailed until April 26 for an all options pre-sentence report.
Bill Maude, prosecuting, told the court police stopped the defendant at 12.45pm after spotting Alcock's brake light was not working. He appeared to be having trouble following the road.
Officers went to the defendant's car, spoke to Alcock and he was clearly the worse for drink. He was asked if he had been drinking, and said he had had a glass of chablis with his breakfast.
Mr Maude said the lowest of two tests showed 118 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 mililitres of breath -- the legal limit is 35.
