CLITHEROE manager Lee Sculpher is grateful for the massive boost Bacup Borough gave his side's title ambitions in midweek.
And he is banking on the Blues doing themselves a favour when they go to Congleton tomorrow.
Bacup held Clitheroe's title challengers Woodley Sports to a 1-1 draw at West View on Wednesday night.
And Sculpher is hoping to make up some ground on their North West Counties Division One rivals this weekend, especially after the frustration of having their game at Nantwich called off on Tuesday.
"It was a ridiculous decision by the referee," the Blues player manager said.
"If he had called it off at 7pm when it initially rained no-one would have complained because it was such a heavy downpour.
"But the referee said he would look at the pitch at quarter to eight. When he did that it was visibly drying and by 8pm there wasn't any water on it at all but he still called it off.
"It was particularly disappointing because a couple of the lads had to take half-days off work to get to the game."
But Woodley's draw at Bacup provided a welcome boost for the Blues.
"I was delighted with that result and it puts us in a healthy position," Sculpher said.
"It's going to be a difficult game tomorrow and then we're at Curzon Ashton on Monday so I'd be pleased with four points from six, but obviously maximum points would be better."
Lee Cryer is doubtful for Clitheroe tomorrow due to a bout of flu, while Jason Jones is missing through work commitments.
Bacup will be looking to build on the point they picked up in midweek against Woodley when they entertain Skelmbersdale tomorrow.
Manager Brent Peters was impressed with the way they recovered from a shaky start to play controlled, passing football.
Peters may choose to bring in some fringe players to keep his side fresh for their forthcoming League Challenge Cup final against Newcastle Town, who beat Ramsbottom in their two-legged semi-final.
The Rams entertain Curzon Ashton tomorrow and will be aiming to bounce back from their 4-3 defeat at Salford in midweek.
