GARDENERS are being urged to think green during their garden spring clean.
The Lancashire Waste Partnership is promoting composting as the ideal way to deal with most garden waste as part of its 'Don't Wriggle Out of Composting' campaign.
About a third of all rubbish in the typical bin can be turned into compost, and you don't even need a garden to take part.
County Coun Brian Johnson, cabinet member for urban and rural regeneration, said: "Spring is the time of year when we all start to think about making our gardens beautiful -- and what better way to help this along than with your own supply of compost?"
Free compost kits are available to householders across Lancashire, which can be used to turn vegetable peelings, grass cuttings, small amounts of cardboard and garden waste into nutrient-rich compost. The bins are available free by calling 0845 65 88 550. Each one is supplied with instructions.
People can also take garden rubbish to their local Household Waste Recycling Centre and put it in the 'green waste' skips. Material is then turned into compost and sold through the sites.
