ACCRINGTON Stanley chairman Eric Whalley has slammed the players after the club's disciplinary record reached new levels this week.

Late dismissals for Dean Calcutt and Rory Prendergast in Tuesday's Lancashire FA Marsden Trophy final defeat at Morecambe took the club's red card tally to 14 for the season.

And John Coleman's side are now ready to face the wrath of the Football Association and an anticipated fine of £10,000.

Furious chairman Whalley blasted: "Someone has to take responsibility.

"A lot of people work hard to bring money into the club. But what is the point of working hard behind the scenes to bring stability to go full-time next season if the players just throw it away with stupid reactions?

"It's not good enough. The team has got to have a good look at themsleves.

"The two who were sent off on Tuesday night only have themselves to blame.

"All the players will be hit heavily in their pockets. They will pay the FA fine not the club."

Whalley, who accompanied Coleman to an FA meeting in February where the club was urged to clean up its act, added that he would be making his feelings known to the players by calling a meeting after tonight's game at Telford.

"They are good at asking me for other things so I'm going to go into the dressing room after the game and talk to them about it.

"This season has been a learning curve and we have got to make sure we don't repeat the same mistakes next season.

"It's not fair to the fans. We've had a good season and we don't want it to appear that we aren't bothered about the discipline because we are. It's got to improve."

And Whalley said the same must go for manager Coleman, who will respond to charges of two breaches of improper conduct at an FA Disciplinary Commission on Wednesday following incidents during Stanley's FA Cup third round replay at Colchester United.
