Leigh Centurions 46 Halifax 20 by Mike Hulme: THE Centurions runaway victory over major rivals Halifax may have come at a high price.
Key half-back Tommy Martyn was rushed off to hospital for x-rays on a possible broken jaw after, Leigh claim, he was hit off the ball.
"It's a big worry," conceded Leigh coach Darren Abram. "Tommy says he was caught late after he'd kicked a 40/20. We don't know at this stage what the damage is, but we've got our fingers crossed."
It's just what Leigh didn't need as they head off to Whitehaven on Monday to start their National League One campaign.
But Leigh will travel with confidence sky high after completing their Arriva Trains group games with a 100 per cent record.
Halifax, hit by injuries, battled back strongly after Leigh had roared into a 22-0 lead inside the opening half hour. Although they scored four tries, the result was never in any doubt.
Halifax old boys Paul Rowley and Danny Halliwell helped put the skids under their former club with three of Leigh's eight tries.
Rowley scored a try in each half and Halliwell crossed in the 14th minute. Dave Alstead and Dan Potter also crossed in the first 30 minutes as Leigh raced clear to 22-0.
But two tries in three minutes from Chris Norman and Rikki Sherrife, plus a Jon Roper conversion, gave them some hope. However, Leigh finished the half strongly and Neil Turley went under the posts right on the hooter.
Four minutes into the second half Ian Knott and John Duffy created Rowley's second try.
David Bates and Sherrife pulled tries back for Halifax but Leigh were still well clear and finished off with further touchdowns from Mar McCully and John Duffy as Turley took his goals tally to seven and a match haul of 18.
