A BOROUGH mayor hopes to hit the high note for charity by hosting a fund-raising concert at a village hall.
Serenata will take to the stage at Chipping Village Hall next Friday at 7.30pm.
Ribble Valley Mayor Alan Yearing is hosting the concert, called Spring Serenade, in aid of the Ribble Valley branches of the Dyslexia Association and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Serenata is a group of seven accomplished singers from Ribble Valley, including sopranos Hilary Ashton, of the Blackburn Elizabethan Singers, and Vicky Jones, of Clitheroe Parish Church Choir. Other members include tenor David del Strother, who is training as a professional singer, and bass Nigel Spooner, who is an organist as well as director of the Clitheroe Royal Grammar School Swing Band.
The programme will include an Elizabethan madrigal - a vocal composition in five or six parts - by John Benet, folk songs from England and Iceland, and songs from the shows by Ivor Novello, Cole Porter and Noel Coward.
Tickets for the concert, priced £8.50, which includes a glass of wine and refreshments, are available from the Ribble Valley Mayor's secretary on 01200 414408.
