AMENDED plans to convert a former chapel into 12 apartments are set to be considered by planners in Rossendale next week.

Barnett Construction Ltd based in Forest Bank Road, Crawshawbooth, are planning to transform the former Rakefoot Methodist Chapel into spacious living accommodation.

Planning officers have recommended the application for approval after the proposals were deferred at last months development control meeting.

The applicants have now amended the plans after councillors raised concerns about parking, access and refuse collection.

The Grade II listed building was built in 1866 of rock-faced sandstone with a slate roof which stands in the heart of Crawshawbooth -- with easy access to the shops and other amenities.

Barnett Construction plan to introduce 16 roof lights, four new ground floor windows, a lower entrance gate and a new door.

The applicant wants to to amend existing access from York Street to extend under the link between the chapel and the Sunday school building to the side of the chapel.

A total of 18 car parking spaces will be provided including six visitor spaces.

Lancashire County Council Highways have recommended that a contribution of £6,000 be made towards improvements to the local northbound bus stop. This would help pay for a new bus shelter and kerbing to improve access for passengers. The application will be heard by councillors at next Wednesday's development control meeting.
