THE East Lancs Railway will provide the perfect platform for a rally and classic car event later this year.

Gleaming Rover cars of yesteryear will be parked alongside veteran sparkling locos at the show, to be staged at Bury's Bolton Street station on Sunday, July 25.

The North-west region of the Rover P5 Owners Club is putting on the All Rover Rally and Classic Car event, in partnership with the railway.

The car show is to celebrate the centenary of the Rover marque. Admission is free. Up to 100 classic Rover vehicles will be on display as will a number of restored double decker buses.

Invitations have been sent to organisations including the Range Rover Register, the P4 Drivers Guild, the Rover P5 Owners Club, Bolton GM Owners Club and Classic Auto Club and the Rover Sports Register.

Rally application forms can be obtained by sending a stamp-addressed envelope to Mr. G. Manser, 45 Skipton Avenue, Crossens, Southport. PR9 8JP.

Pre-booked rally entrants will receive a commemorative plaque and trophies will be presented to class winners.
