BLACKBURN Council was set to increase council house rent by up to 75p a week on the eve of the local elections. The proposal sparked a row between the main political parties only seven days before polling day.
Elsewhere thieves broke into Darwen's St Joseph's and St John's primary schools over night with £40 stolen from St John's headmaster's study.
