FIRST North Western's so-called explanation for Westbound trains continuing to use the "temporary" windswept Platform 4, is management piffle at its most unconvincing.

Trains emerging from the tunnel and being able to run direct to their stopping-point have apparently a better chance of keeping to time than if they had to switch tracks and enter the far more convenient and protected Platform 2, in the main part of the station.

As a regular user to several destinations my only reply to that one is "Gotcha."

I should dearly like to know if the operators responsible for deciding to continue this unpopular and unnecessary practice have actually tried out two possibilities. If so, may we have details please?

I doubt if the council can do much more than persuade the people responsible for such an unsatisfactory state of affairs to erect a few extra shelters, possibly a little nearer the platform edge.

It is surely the job of the companies involved to show genuine concern by getting their act together instead of indulging in non-committed dilly-dallying talk.

Come on FNW, Blackburn is not a titchy little backwater and deserves something better.
