A CONTROVERSIAL religious film has received a glowing review from a churchman.

The Rev Chris Cheeseman, minister at Whalley Methodist Church, said The Passion of the Christ, directed by Mel Gibson, is "a magnificent achievement".

Speaking in his circuit newsletter he said: "The Passion is a beautifully crafted and finely conceived work of great artistry and daring, worthy of serious contemplation, prayerful discussion and grateful applause and it may well be the finest portrayal of Christ yet filmed."

Mr Cheeseman said the film draws attention to the agony that Christ went through for others and he urged people to see it.
