FORGET the Worthington Cup. Forget getting into Europe last season.

Because if Blackburn stay up it will be their greatest achievement yet.

Winning cup finals and getting to the top six in the Premiership is fantastic but when that happens you get on a good roll of results.

So even though there's nerves you're still going into games in a position of strength.

Rovers at the moment are going into games in a position of weakness and that means you have to overcome a lack of confidence and things being stacked up against you.

I've been there myself. You've done well the season before but when you come back after the summer things just don't go for you the same way so it's a real test of your guts.

Look at Fulham on Monday night. You'd have thought that head-butt on Jonathan Stead would have been spotted by at least one of the officials but not one of them picked up on an incident that so many others did.

But Rovers, even though they're still waiting for their first penalty of the season, didn't feel sorry for themselves and got a great result.

They didn't help themselves, though, because the goals they concede are gob-smacking.

I know the offside law is still a mish-mash but they don't look organised from free kicks. And even if you haven't got that, you have to show willingness to get to the ball first.

But encouragingly, if you concede three to score four at the other end is a really, really good sign.

It's the type of thing that convinces me that Rovers have the ability to score enough goals to stay up.

For the first one, that pass form Tugay was stunning. And Andy Cole then had a chance that was very easy to miss but he struck it perfectly and it was an exceptional goal.

Then Stead scored the winner, which pleased me, not least because I tipped him to be Blackburn's main man in the run-in a few weeks ago.

He's had a lean time since then but to come from where he has and been thrust into a struggling side having to score goals and perform, he's responded to it.

He takes goals with such composure and has really got people talking about him, which bodes well for the future.

Despite those soft goals, Lorenzo Amoruso looked good and Craig Short is the sort of hero we need. I was terrified last week when it looked like he would be injured.

So the good thing is it's still in Rovers' own hands but it will be a rough ride, just as it was on Monday.

Every game now is now a cup final, which is why it will be a massive achievement if they stay up.
