THE latest computer equipment will soon be available in Burnley's libraries thanks to a scheme to allow local people access to new technology.
Lancashire County Council is investing £50,000 in updating the People's Network, which provides computers free of charge, with access to email and internet, in libraries, as well as free tuition.
Padiham and Burnley West County Councillor Marcus Johnstone, who is also the cabinet member for cultural services and communication, said: "I want to ensure the library service is as accessible to as many people as possible.
"The People's Network has proved to be tremendously successful since it was introduced and attracts more and more users every year.
"Computer software needs updating regularly and if we are to continue to provide an excellent ICT service in Burnley's libraries, then extra investment is essential."
New CD and DVD copywriters will allow visitors to the library to download information and take it home. Photo-editing software will also be introduced on all personal computers to allow the County Council's Adult and Continuing Education Services to offer classes to the public.
