POLICE in East Lancashire have been drafted in to help find ex-Burnley boxer Ray Taylor, who is accused of breaking on to the set of TV soap EastEnders.

Taylor, whose age has been given in court as 33, and of Cedar Street, Accrington, was due before St Alban's magistrates, Hertfordshire last Tuesday charged with going equipped for theft. He failed to turn up and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Hertfordshire Police confirmed today they are liasing with Lancashire Police to establish if Taylor has returned to East Lancashire. Taylor, formerly of Great Harwood, was arrested after an intruder apparently broke into the Elstree studios in Hertfordshire and approached Shane Richie, who plays Alfie Moon in EastEnders, and actress Jessie Wallace, who plays Kat Slater.

It has been reported that the intruder walked in and announced: "I'm here for the acting lessons." Security men grabbed the suspect and held him until police arrived. A screwdriver and wirecutters were allegedly found in his backpack.

Taylor is a former amateur fighter with the Bamber Bridge and Accrington Lions Club.

A spokeswoman for Hertfordshire Police, said: "Ray Taylor has not been arrested yet. Inquiries are being made to see whether he is at his home address."
