THE Clarets Reserves earned nothing but praise from manager Ronnie Jepson despite their defeat at Hull last night.
The Clarets deserved far more from one of their most impressive displays of the season in the Pontins League clash at North Ferriby.
But a first half injury time goal and a second half breakaway left the Clarets second string frustratingly empty handed for all their hard work.
Jepson, who handed trials to 6ft 8in Preston striker Fola Onibuje and young Sunderland defender Chris Scott - no relation to the former Burnley stopper of the same name - said: "It was a great effort from my lads.
"They were playing a far more experienced side, yet could have won the game but for several missed chances.
"But as performances go, I would say was definitely one of the best of the season and I can't ask for more from the young boys.
"All year long it has been about blooding them and positives can be drawn from a tough season if you look at the likes of Ryan Townsend and Marc Pugh, who have both gone on to make the first team bench.
"The development of young players is what reserve team football is all about."
Burnley Reserves remain bottom of the Pontins Premier League following the defeat, with just three games now remaining - all at Turf Moor.
