CHARITIES and a sports club are to receive £1,200 thanks to kindhearted police in Burnley.
The Anthony Nolan Trust, Burnley Rugby Club junior section and Diabetes UK's Pendle and Rossendale Parents Support Group will benefit from equal shares of the cash.
The money has been raised through a staff lottery which raises around £1,000 each year.
Previous recipients have included the Burnley and Pendle Hospice, Cancer Research, the Mayor of Burnley's Charity Appeal and the National Deaf Children's Society. Chief Superintendent Jerry Graham, commander of Pennine Division, was set to join Sergeant Stan Heaton and representatives from each of the organisations at this year's presentation at Burnley police station today.
Sgt Heaton, who arranges the lottery said: "Current and retired police officers as well as support staff take part in the lottery.
"They were asked to nominate specific charities and these were their nominations.
"We are delighted to be able to hand over the cash which I know will be put to very good use by each of the organisations chosen."
