ROSSENDALE councillors were fighting against the wearing of seatbelts being made compulsory - despite overwhelming statistical evidence about the effectiveness of seatbelts in cars.
At the Technical Services Committee members agreed with a proposal by Councillor Norman Taylor that motorists should be allowed to decide for themselves whether or not they wore seatbelts.
