PUPILS are counting down the days until they move into a brand new super school.
Staff from Spring Hill Community Primary School in Accrington are busy preparing for the big move across the road into a state-of-the-art £2.6million building which has taken 12 months to build.
The new school, which can cater for 420 pupils and is disabled friendly, includes many modern features such as interactive white boards, an electronic loan system library, new computers in a stylish ICT suite and under-floor heating in the corridors and hall.
And when the new Spring Hill logo flag is flown outside, it will be a far cry from the 105-year-old building which welcomed Nitty Nora and Second World War refugees.
The youngsters and staff will move into the building after returning from their Easter break on Monday, April 19.
Stephanie Grimshaw, who has taught at the Exchange Street school for 20 years and has been headteacher for the past five.
She had always hoped that a new building would replace the current Victorian school, which is split into three separate buildings.
She said: "I just can't find the words to say how excited we all are about the move.
"Since I started at the school 20 years ago we have been hoping that a brand new school building would be built.
"I can't believe it's finally happening.
"We gave Lancashire County Council a long wish list when the design of the building was being discussed and all our wishes have been catered for."
