IMPORTANT decisions will be made on Monday regarding the futures of six special schools.
The Wigan School Organisation Committee (SOC) will meet at Wigan Town Hall to discuss the future provisions for special education with Two Porches, and Greenhall schools at Atherton, Tanfield and Brookfield High at Hindley and Mere Oaks at Standish coming under scuritiny.
The School Organisation Committee (SOC) will decide on the special needs provision and will consider plans Hindley Community High School is also to be discussed with plans for it to become more inclusive. The SOC committee contains 16 members, which are divided into five separate groups containing five councillors; five governors representing primary, secondary and special schools, three Church of England reps, three Catholic reps and one Learning and Skills council rep.
The committee is required by law in each LEA and is designed to deal with the provision of education at a local level, making decisions on the School Organisation Plan and on statutory proposals such as school reorganisation or closures.
