COLNE moved to within one point of top spot and go to Leek on Saturday knowing that a win will secure the championship.
The Reds made all the early running and on 20 minutes a James Webster corner was headed home by Gavin Cooper at the near post.
Pressure mounted on the visitors and the move of the night produced the second goal when a one-two between Webster and Carl Haworth ended with Webster driving home from inside the area.
Quick-thinking Webster turned provider with just minutes remaining in the first half. The Reds were awarded a free kick and he rolled the ball to Haworth inside the box for the striker to fire in his 45th goal of the season.
The second half was only four minutes old when Danny Heys hit the crossbar and Sam Hayes followed up to make it 4-0.
Cheadle got a consolation goal late on but the Reds were never troubled and could have added to their total with Cooper, Haworth, Ingham and Webster all going close.
Colne still have a limited number of seats available on the coach to Leek on Saturday, which leaves the Thatch and Thistle at 12 noon.
Anyone wishing to travel should contact secretary Dave Blacklock.
Meanwhile, in the North West Counties First Division, Ramsbottom suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Alsager Town.
