RADCLIFFE carnival organisers are still planning to go ahead with their annual parade, despite similar events being cancelled across the region.
New regulations in the Road Traffic Act introduced this year prevent people from riding on the back of floats for safety reasons.
But the town's carnival committee say they are still planning the June 5 event as usual, and taking bookings for floats.
Mrs Hilda Vevers, committee member, said: "As far as we know, up to now, we are still planning the event as last year. No one has said anything to us about the regulations. We have read about them in the newspapers, but no one has approached us about it."
Last year, the bad weather on the Friday and Sunday did not deter Radcliffe revellers from the event. And the glorious sunshine on Saturday brought people out in their thousands.
But this year, the organisers of Blackrod carnival, in Bolton, have had to cancel their summer parade. Riding on the back of floats has been banned, and the carnival queen can no longer sit on cars and must sit inside with her seat belt on.
The regulations, which have been enforced by police across Greater Manchester, follow a bid to sue the police by a man who fell under the wheels of a float in Cheltenham.
