PEOPLE in Darwen are being encouraged to dig out their unwanted toys for a charity sale in aid of local youngster Eva Heeks.
The appeal was made by staff at Sudellside Community Centre in a bid to get as many new or good-as-new toys to sell at the centre on Wednesday, May 5.
One-year-old Eva contracted meningitis soon after birth, leaving her blind, deaf and unable to walk, talk or feed properly. Her father, Ray Heeks, runs the Darwen School of Kung Fu, based at Sudellside Community Centre and often volunteers at the centre.
Staff there will hold the 'good as new toy sale' to raise money for the Eva Heeks Trust.
Centre manager Sue Freear said: "We would like to appeal to members of the public, shops and other businesses to donate any unwanted toys.
"These can be dropped off at any of Darwen's community centres or bases. We urge the people of Darwen and the surrounding area to do all they can to help this little girl."
Further information is available from Sue on 01254 760270. Toys can be left at Sudellside; Darwen Community Centre, Knott Street; Earcroft Community Base, Bolton Road; Barlow
Institute, Edgworth; or Hoddlesden Community Centre.
