AN ALL-STAR charity soccer match postponed because of bad weather is set to kick off later this month.
Rossendale United FC are gearing up for the clash with a Manchester United Xl in at Dark Lane, Newchurch, on Tuesday, April 27, in memory of popular soccer fan David Taylor.
David, 25, of Greendale Avenue, Newchurch, who was killed after a night out in Rawtenstall, was a keen supporter of both teams. His killer, 19-year-old Andrew McDonald, was jailed for five years last month after it was revealed he head-butted David in Bank Street, Rawtenstall. David collapse and died moments after the assault.
Kevin Proctor, secretary of the UniBond First Division club, said: "Manchester United can't promise who will be there on the night but we are hoping for some famous names.
"We have had calls from fans all over the country who are planning to come and support the match, which is encouraging. We have already sold around 500 tickets and would really like to sell 1,000 - which is achievable if we get the weather."
There will be entertainment during half-time from Rossendale girls and youth teams.
David's parents, Caroline and David, have asked for money raised from the match to be donated to a disabled child with a sporting aspiration.
Tickets, priced at £5 for adults and £2.50 for children and OAPs, and are available from M&T Newsagents in Crawshawbooth, The Royal Hotel, Waterfoot, the Jolly Sailor and Rossendale United.
Tickets will also be available on the night. For more information contact the club on 01706 215119.
