LEIGH'S town centre Bengal Street toilets have reopened -- with an appeal to treat them with respect.
The loos which became the target for a sustained campaign of vandalism were back in action briefly last year but the dangerous condition of the roof meant they had to shut down again.
Following extensive work, including repairs to the roof and internal fittings, they are now open between 8.30am to 4.30pm.
A council spokesman said: "The toilets have been misused in the past at the hands of the minority. We have worked hard to make the building safe and presentable again.
"Although the cleaning staff will be inspecting the site twice a day we would ask everyone to treat them with respect so that they can be preserved for all to use."
