"Fact: A caveman's brain size is the third of the size of the modern man"
The author of the all so, 'non-sexiest, non-racist' article (You're so vain you probably think this article is about you - Asian Image March issue) portrays his outlook of the modern Asian girl in an all so eloquent manner.
I will not be so crass as to disregard all the 'off the cuff' remarks and points he has made in his article, as even I have to agree with some of the points made. Let us carefully analyse and criticise some of the points made in the article.
It is true to say, university has become accessible to all, it is no longer an institution created just for the elite.
But to a large degree, should us Asians, male or female, be thankful for such opportunities - that we have the same chances as other races in society?
Should we not be grateful, that Asian girls are now afforded the same opportunities as their male counterparts, the options to of going onto further education, to gain degrees, and to look forward to a prosperous future, whether it be in a call centre or an investment bank.
At least a university education, provides Asian females with options, which they would not have had 15 years ago.
Let us now tackle, our authors interpretation of intellect. This in itself raises an important fundamental philosophical issue, an issue people far more 'intelligent' than myself or our 'beloved' author have struggled to answer for many centuries. From what I can gather, the author measures the intelligence of Asian females by their use of slang in everyday vocabulary. Certainly, I'm sure our author would agree this is a very simplistic way to measure intelligence 'innit'.
Has slang not corrupted all of us, whether we be male or female. Can the use of slang be directed solely at our female population? Definitely not. If our author, knew the modern day Asian population, male or female, he would realise slang is more prosperous and prevalent throughout the Asian male population than it is through the female population. Anyway let's not flog a dead horse, I think we could safely disregard, that the use of slang is directly related to intelligence. Correct me if I'm wrong!
Asian women - be it at home looking after the children, or at work as a successful investment banker, should they both be not given the same weight and value in our society?
Are they not performing equally important roles in the world at large? Do they both not bring and add value to our society? Should we as a society not be proud of both them? I think so, but our author seems to be trying his utmost to take us back 20 years. Should our Asian females not be allowed to have the option, of staying at home or having a career, is the latter not achieved by going to university?
Is he not referring to Asian career women as the 'underclass'? We should be equally as proud of these women as we are of those who stay at home.
If a woman chooses to go to university and have a career whilst also getting married at 26 rather than 20, is that not her prerogative? The same that is forwarded to their male counterparts!
