WHAT'S IN A NAME: The new £4.2 million road-rail bus station being built in the town centre was to be known simply as "Bury Interchange."
Local councillors decided on the title after being asked by Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive to choose between that or the very apt Bury Road-Rail Interchange.
MUCH AT STEAK: Thirteen members of Bury and District Young Farmers' Club took part in the annual carcass judging competition at the Holcombe Brook slaughter house.
ALCOHOL FREE PARTY: Town centre publican Terence Regan of the Rayners Bar banned all political meetings in his pub after receiving abusive telephone calls threatening his three young children if he allowed the local Socialist Workers Party branch to meet on the premises.
TEETOTAL TIPPLE: A 19-year-old Bury girl, who claimed she was not guilty of being drunk and disorderly because taking alcohol was against her Mormon religion, changed her plea when she appeared in court. She also admitted stealing.
