LAST week's Guide published the retirement of Parrenthorn High School's long-standing headteacher, Mr Arthur Francis.
The school was opened in 1974 and Mr Francis took over as headteacher in 1988.
The school's first head was Mr Eddie White, who was a welcome guest at Mr Francis's retirement celebrations.
On the first day of term in September 1974, the Heywood Road school - then named Parrenthorn County Secondary School - had 180 pupils.
There were six forms, including two classes of second and third year girls transferred from other schools.
